Wordsowers Retreat
Saturday, September 19, 2026

Theme: Inspired to Create
Incredible opportunity to reignite your creativity.

The annual Wordsowers Retreat/Write-In will be at Mahoney State Park, located at 28500 W. Park Highway, Ashland, NE 68003. Meet in the Cedar Room on the main floor of the Peter Kiewit Lodge from 9:00 a.m. to *5:00 p.m. The cost is $10.00 per person; however, you will need to purchase a day pass for $7.00 if you don’t already have a state park sticker.

A continental breakfast (pastries and fruit, plus some gluten-free options) will be served, along with coffee, decaf coffee, tea, juice, and bottled water. **You will need to bring a sack lunch and a preferred beverage for the noon meal. A popcorn bar will be available in the afternoon.

After breakfast, we’ll spend a few minutes in worship and in the Word of God based on the theme, “Inspired to Create.” Be sure to bring your laptop and/or pen and paper, along with a writing project. Around 10:00 a.m., writers are encouraged to go their separate ways throughout the park to write for a couple of hours. We’ll return to the Cedar Room for lunch and a time of fellowship, sharing, and prayer. Once again in the afternoon, writers will go their separate ways for a couple of hours.

We’ll end our time together by giving folks a chance to share what they accomplished throughout the day.

Please RSVP by September 12th to Debbie Crom at debbie_crom@yahoo.com. You can also RSVP by responding to this email. If you have any questions or concerns, contact Amy Stanley at amystanleyauthor@gmail.com.

A Splash of Color: Sent with Love

A Splash of Color: Sent with Love
A Write-in with Theresa Graeve

Where watercolors will lead to an inspiring story

Thursday, August 27th, at 7:00 p.m.
*Omaha Christian Center

Theresa’s done it before and will do it again. Using an artistic approach, she’ll inspire us as writers. (Ask Kaylene. She had an idea for a book, and thanks to Theresa’s inspiration, the first chapter is now written.) After painting postcards with watercolors, the creativity will “send our writing to the next level.” (That’s a Theresa quote.)

Obviously, we’re going to have fun. Theresa will provide the watercolors, postcards, pens, and paper needed for the project. Feel free to bring your laptops as well. Snacks will be served.

Theresa is a talented artist who enjoys many aspects of art: watercolors, oil, charcoal, tie-dying paper, and creating her own themed books (just to name a few). She understands the importance of writers expanding and challenging themselves beyond writing, knowing that other art venues can be an inspiration to get those creative juices flowing.

Starbucks, Fellowship, and Writing
Thursday, April 23rd
7:00 p.m.

Instead of meeting at Omaha Christian Center, we’ll get together at the Starbucks Coffee Shop located at 1303 S. 72nd Street, Omaha, NE 68124. Join us for an evening of coffee (or fruit smoothies), fellowship, and writing. This is going to be an interesting meeting where you’ll have the opportunity to do some creative writing. After you’re given some prompts, you’ll divide into groups to see what you can create together. Bring a pen, paper, and/or laptop.

If you were at the March meeting, be sure to bring your fiction story to share with others. Keep it between 150-750 words.

(WS always meets on the fourth Thursday of the month, not necessarily the last Thursday. There are five Thursdays in April.)

Wordsowers Annual Christmas Party
The Gift that Keeps on Giving

Saturday, December 6th
10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

You and a guest are invited to the WS Annual Christmas Party. It will be held at Amy Stanley’s home located at 18814 Alder Drive, Omaha, NE 68136.

There’ll be a short devotion on the theme of “The Gift that Keeps on Giving,” as well as Christmas carols, brunch, fellowship time, games, and door prizes.

For brunch, we’re asking people with last names beginning in A-M to bring a “savory” dish such as eggs, bacon, sausage, or casseroles. We’re asking people with last names beginning in N-Z to bring a “sweet” dish, such as cinnamon rolls, muffins, bagels, or fruit. Beverages will be provided.

You won’t want to miss our always-entertaining White Elephant gift exchange. In keeping with the theme, “The Gift that Keeps on Giving,” bring something you already have at home, ideally a present you’ve received but never quite found a use for. Wrap it up and bring it to the party. (Please don’t purchase a gift.) Let’s keep it lighthearted and have some laughs together.

You’ll need to RSVP for the Christmas party no later than Tuesday, December 2nd. To RSVP, send an email to Debbie Crom at debbie_crom@yahoo.com or text her at 402-238-2188 (or you can reply to this WS newsletter email). In the email or text, be sure to tell Debbie how many will attend and what specific brunch dish you are bringing.

Have a Blessed Thanksgiving.
Give thanks to the Lord for He is good.

What are you thankful for this year?

There are no regular monthly meetings in November and December. WS Critique group will meet in November but not in December. Be sure and check out the Christmas Mystery Party details for December 7th. (Posted separately from this post.) Regular monthly meetings will resume in January on the fourth Thursday.
